FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

Kevin Payne sifts through Tuesday's slate and finds Miguel Sano in a good spot at home against Rockies rookie left-hander Kyle Freeland.
FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

Pitcher

Jimmy Nelson, MIL at SD ($7,800): Nelson isn't a steady pitcher with a solid floor to rely on game in and game out. This is all about his matchup, as the Padres have struggled to hit right-handed pitching this season. They own a .296 wOBA at home against righties (fourth lowest in the league) and they strike out the sixth most against that handedness at 22.6 percent. Nelson has a 7.75 K/9 (around average) but a career-best 94.0 mph fastball suggests that number could improve.

Catcher

Brian McCann, HOU at MIA ($2,900): McCann is off to a nice start to the season and he's even hit left-handed pitching well to start the season. Tonight he'll face off with Tom Koehler who's been roughed up by left-handed hitting to start the season. Koehler has allowed a .479 wOBA to lefties fueled by giving up six home runs in only 13.2 innings to that handedness.

First Base

Yonder Alonso, OAK at SEA ($3,400): Alonso has gotten off to a hot start effectively hitting both left (.379 wOBA) and right-handed (.441 wOBA) pitching. Alonso has developed a power stroke with 12 home runs and gets a nice matchup against Chase De Jong. De Jong has already given up two home runs in less than nine innings to left-handed batters and is a rookie only making his sixth start.

Second Base

Rougned Odor, TEX vs PHI ($2,800): This is a nice price to buy into with Odor, especially given he's home tonight against a mediocre right-handed pitcher. Last season in Arlington, Odor had a .356 wOBA against right-handed pitching and Jerad Eickhoff has struggled on the road for his career. Eickhoff has the worst splits on the road against left-handed hitters, giving up a .364 wOBA.

Shortstop

Chris Owings, ARI vs NYM ($3,300): The Diamondbacks will be popular plays tonight with Yasmany Tomas and Paul Goldschmidt on a lot of rosters against lefty Tommy Milone, but Owings offers a potentially lower-ownership alternative. Owings usually hits second against lefties and last season owned a .430 wOBA against them at home. Milone has given up a .412 wOBA to right-handed hitters this season after giving up a .362 last season.

Third Base

Miguel Sano, MIN vs COL ($4,000): Sano continues to feast on left-handed pitching, especially at home. His wOBA against southpaws is .482 this season and that mark goes up to .512 at home. Kyle Freeland isn't a top pitching prospect and has benefited from a soft schedule up to this point.

Outfield

Carlos Gonzalez, COL at MIN ($2,900): It's been a while since CarGo's price has been this low given how big a fantasy producer he's been. On the road in Minnesota isn't ideal, but the pitching matchup against Phil Hughes is a good one. Hughes, in limited samples, has given up a .365 wOBA this season against lefties after giving up a .412 mark last season.

Kyle Schwarber, CHC vs CIN ($3,100): Schwarber gets a great home matchup tonight as the Bronson Arroyo Farewell Tour stops in Chicago. The fact is there probably isn't going to be too many more opportunities to pick on Arroyo, who has a 5.94 ERA. Schwarber in his short career has a .378 wOBA in Wrigley against right-handed pitching.

J.D. Martinez, DET vs BAL ($3,600): Martinez is back in the heart of the Tigers lineup and already has two home runs in his first three games back. He has a career .390 wOBA against left-handed pitching at home for his career and gets Wade Miley tonight. While Miley has been great this season, he doesn't profile as a pitcher that can maintain a 2.45 ERA.
