2025 Fantasy Outlook
Control woes continue to plague the Giants' top pitching prospect in 2024. Whisenhunt started 25 games for Triple-A Sacramento, registering an impressive 28.4 percent strikeout rate, but he also logged a generous 11.3 percent walk rate. The 24-year-old southpaw throws a 93-mph sinker, cutter, slider and change-up (which is his best pitch). Metrics like BABIP are unreliable in the Pacific Coast League, but the .369 mark Whisenhunt recorded last season is inflated. The lefty will likely open the year back with the River Cats, ostensibly working on throwing strikes. Last year, 63.7 percent of his pitches were strikes, but since the major league average was 64.3 percent, a modest improvement could put him in the mix for a rotation spot with the Giants. Considering only Logan Webb has a reliable track record, Whisenhunt could force the issue. Read Past Outlooks

Whisenhunt isn't expected to miss extended time due to the back strain that landed him on the 15-day injured list Sunday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Analysis
Whisenhunt is eligible for activation Sept. 12, and he could have a good shot at returning on that date or close to it. The rookie left-hander holds a 5.01 ERA and uninspiring 16:12 K:BB over 23.1 frames covering five starts with the Giants this season.

PSan Francisco Giants
May 22, 2025
According to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area, Whisenhunt is a candidate to enter the Giants' starting rotation after Justin Verlander was placed on the injured list Thursday due to a pectoral injury.
Analysis
San Francisco will have a gap in the rotation Saturday in Washington, with Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison the leading candidates to step in. However, Whisenhunt is the organization's top pitching prospect still in the minors, and it would be an opportunity to bring him up for his MLB debut. The left-hander has made nine starts for Triple-A Sacramento this season and has a 3.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 52:7 K:BB across 51 innings. The Giants seem likely to turn to a more experienced rotation option, however.
