Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Saggese is a bit of a throwback in that he hits without batting gloves and has a super aggressive approach at the plate. It took him a while to adjust during his first extended run at Triple-A Memphis last season, but those adjustments were eventually made as he slashed .291/.351/.524 with 12 home runs over a 55-game stretch before netting a late-season cup of coffee in the majors. Ultimately, he finished with 20 homers but just a 93 wRC+ at Memphis, although he was young for the level at 22. Saggese struggled during his brief stint in St. Louis and, since he'll turn just 23 in April and the Cardinals have depth at his infield positions, it's likely he's headed back to Memphis to start 2025. Analysis
Saggese had started every game since Aug. 8 and has a modest five-game hitting streak going, but he made a pair of errors in Monday's loss to the Athletics. Jose Fermin will cover second base and bat seventh for St. Louis.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Part of the Cardinals' return from Texas for Jordan Montgomery, Saggese went on a summer-long heater at Double-A before finally cooling down after a late-season promotion to Triple-A. He hit .351/.424/.653 with 20 home runs, six steals and a 22.9 K% in 285 at-bats from June 10 through Sept. 7. Saggese (pronounced soo-JAY-see) is a career .298 hitter in the minors and has a classic bat-first second baseman profile. He looks to do damage early in counts and will probably be better in batting average leagues than OBP leagues. He is a fringe-average runner but was on base enough to steal 12 bags on 14 attempts in 139 games. If he can hit around .280 with 20 home runs, Saggese should provide enough value to justify everyday playing time in spite of his fringe-average defense. If not, he'll likely move around the field as a bench bat and injury replacement. Saggese, who turns 22 in April, should head to Triple-A for at least a couple months, as he is not on the 40-man roster.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Playing time prioritized
The Cardinals elected to keep Saggese at Triple-A Memphis for the time being in order to prioritize playing every day, reports John Denton of MLB.com.
Analysis
Nolan Gorman has served as St. Louis' primary second baseman this season, but he was demoted Aug. 21. It seemed like a prime opportunity for Saggese to be promoted since he's the organization's top infield prospect in the upper minors, but the Cardinals have instead turned to Brendan Donovan at the keystone. Saggese has an .867 OPS with 10 homers in 44 games at Triple-A since the start of July and could still make his MLB debut before the end of the campaign, but for now he'll remain with Memphis.
