The rookie two-way player hadn't suited up for the Nuggets this season, but he had been looked sharp through his first 13 appearances in the G League with the Grand Rapids Gold, averaging 19.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 2.0 three-pointers and 1.6 steals in 33.2 minutes per game. Now on the mend from surgery, Bates may face an uphill battle to gain clearance to play before the G League or NBA regular seasons come to an end.
