Solid in relief of Lopez
Johnson completed 9 of 11 passes for 103 yards and one touchdown during Monday's 48-14 defeat against TCU.
ANALYSIS
Johnson entered the game for starter Gio Lopez, who left in the third quarter with a back injury. He had a rough outing to that point, tossing for 69 yards and throwing an interception while completing just 4-of-10 passes. Johnson fared much better, although the game was already far out of hand. He tossed a touchdown to his brother Jake, and the fact that he was on the field at all is impressive after the gruesome leg injury he suffered in the 2024 opener. Lopez remains questionable for Week 2, and Johnson would likely get the nod if he can't go.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2022
2021
Johnson is competing with Haynes King for a starting quarterback position with Texas A&M in 2022, and while he may be new to the Aggies, this would not be his first time earning a starting position with a team. Johnson was QB1 with LSU last season, and he threw for 2,815 yards with 225 completions, a 60.3 percent completion rate, 27 touchdowns and six interceptions. Johnson’s experience may give him an advantage as one of the quarterback contenders, as this is something that the Aggies severely lacked last season. The quarterback competition for coach Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies lasted until the week before the first game in 2021, and it would be no surprise if Johnson found himself in a similar situation this season as well.
