2023 Fantasy Outlook
After a rough start to his 2022 season, Hamilton found more challenge in competing with his teammate than the Red Bulls last year, going without a single win for the first time since joining Formula One despite finishing on the podium a total of nine times. The Mercedes engineers were hard at work attempting to fix an aero issue on Hamilton's W13 for most of the season, and the driver of the No. 44 claims that the bouncing of the car served as a major roadblock between the Brit and finishing first-place. Regardless, last year was Hamilton's first year finishing behind his teammate in the points (Lewis coming in sixth, with George Russell finishing fourth) since the same happened in 2016 with Nico Rosberg. The 2023 season will be a big year for Hamilton if he wants to make another push for the world title, with a championship run only possible if Mercedes is able to provide a car without the previous season's detrimental issues. Fast FP1 at Monza
Hamilton topped Free Practice 1 for the Italian Grand Prix, leading a Ferrari 1-2 from team mate Charles Leclerc as the session was briefly interrupted by a red flag, Formula1.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lando Norris would be the early leader in this opening practice for the Italian GP, but it would be Hamilton and Ferrari that would eventually prevail on soft tyres. The Ferrari star would muster a lap of 1:20.117 to edge Leclerc by just 0.169-seconds to claim the top speed of the session. Hamilton is looking to bounce back from a disastrous Dutch Grand Prix and he has the pace to challenge for a podium Sunday at Monza.
