Cleveland released Okwara (ribs) on Tuesday, Kelsey Russo of the Browns' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Okwara wasn't able to earn a spot on the Browns' final 53-man roster for 2025, and now he's bound for free agency. He'll be free to sign with any team, but there's a chance he ultimately ends up on Cleveland's practice squad.

With Detroit moving back to a 4-3 defensive scheme, Okwara is stuck as a "tweener" who doesn't fit cleanly at defensive end or outside linebacker. However, the Lions have been preparing him to play both during the offseason training program. It remains to be seen how large of a role Okwara will ultimately have in 2022, but he could regularly see a handful of pass-rush opportunities per game while his brother, Romeo, works his way back from a torn Achilles.
Christmas at the Okwara household this winter may be a little awkward after Julian Okwara was drafted to potentially take over the starting spot his brother, Romeo, currently holds with Detroit. While Romeo will have more of an advantage over the highly-drafted rookie than most veterans usually do - thanks to all the practice time missed due to COVID-19 - Julian clearly appears to be the superior prospect of the two. It might be more of a surprise if Julian doesn't carve out some sort of rotational role before long.
