2025 Fantasy Outlook
A down season from McDavid is a dream campaign for the vast majority of players. He finished the 2024-25 regular season with 26 goals, 100 points and 196 shots despite being limited to 67 appearances due to injury. It's possible that injury issues impacted him even when he was in the lineup, given that his eight shots per 60 minutes was the lowest pace of his NHL career. Regardless, the 28-year-old found another gear in the playoffs, providing an additional seven goals and 33 points across 22 outings. McDavid has endured some injury troubles, but not quite to the extent that it's a major concern. It would not be surprising to see him appear in over 75 regular-season games in 2025-26 while exceeding the 30-goal mark and competing for the Art Ross Trophy. Read Past Outlooks

Smothered by kitties in Game 6 loss
McDavid had two shots and finished minus-4 in a 5-1 loss to the Panthers in Game 6 on Tuesday in the Stanley Cup Finals.
ANALYSIS
The kitties smothered both McDavid and Leon Draisaitl on Tuesday, and the rest of the Oilers had no response. Still, he and Draisaitl led all players in scoring with 33 points this postseason. But that's irrelevant to him when the Cup was being hoisted for the second straight season by his opponent.

McDavid produced 32 goals and 100 assists in 2023-24, comfortably surpassing the 100-point plateau for a fourth consecutive season. He also tied for third-most power-play points in the NHL despite missing six games. McDavid and Tampa Bay's Nikita Kucherov were the first players to collect 100 assists in a season since Wayne Gretzky piled up 122 helpers for LA in 1990-91. The 27-year-old McDavid had only 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in his first 11 games, which qualified as a sluggish start by his standards, but he exploded for 122 points (30 goals, 92 assists) in his final 65 outings to finish third in league scoring. He has reached the 100-point mark in seven of the last eight seasons. McDavid's offensive consistency should make him the No. 1 player off the board on draft day.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Won't rush extension decision
McDavid is in no rush to get a contract extension done with Edmonton, but he isn't planning to go elsewhere, telling NHL.com on Wednesday, "I'll take my time and go through everything. I have every intention to win in Edmonton."
ANALYSIS
McDavid is entering the final year of his massive eight-year, $100 million deal he signed with the club back in July of 2017. If the world-class center were to hit the open market, he would undoubtedly have his choice of teams to pick from, with plenty of organizations likely willing to shell out everything they can for his services. At this point, there is no indication that McDavid is going to leave Edmonton, but it will be a constant source of rumors until he puts pen to paper on a new deal.
