2025 Fantasy Outlook
Heinen recorded nine goals and 29 points across 79 appearances between Vancouver and Pittsburgh in 2024-25, which makes it the sixth time in seven seasons that he’s fallen in the 22-34 point range. Glancing at those numbers, it’d be fair to write him off as a bottom-six forward, but that label doesn’t always fit. Although he averaged a modest 13:27 of ice time last year, Heinen moved around the lineup, occasionally seeing time with J.T. Miller and Brock Boeser in Vancouver, as well as a notable amount with Evgeni Malkin after being dealt to the Penguins. It consequently shouldn’t shock anyone if Heinen ends up getting top-six shifts again this campaign, though history suggests that won’t lead to him putting up great offensive numbers, and his returns in PIM and hits -- 31 and 81, respectively, in 2024-25 -- are unlikely to be strong enough to compensate. Credited with goal
Heinen scored a goal on three shots in Saturday's 4-3 shootout win over the Penguins.
ANALYSIS
Heinen has a goal and an assist over his last four games. The 30-year-old got a piece of an Erik Gudbranson shot at 17:38 of the second period to put the Blue Jackets up 3-2. Heinen is playing in a fourth-line role, so he'll have limited fantasy appeal. He's produced two goals, two assists, 22 shots on net, 29 hits, 15 blocked shots and a plus-1 rating over 21 appearances between Columbus and Pittsburgh this season.

Heinen inked a two-year, $4.5 million contract with the Canucks in July following a productive showing with Boston in 2023-24. He generated 17 goals, 36 points, 119 shots on net and a career-high 83 hits across 74 regular-season appearances. Heinen logged most of his playing time in the top six of the Bruins, and Vancouver will probably utilize him in a similar role, which could land him with J.T. Miller or Elias Pettersson. The 29-year-old Heinen spent some time in Boston playing alongside Jake DeBrusk, who also signed with the Canucks during the offseason. Heinen may also have more opportunities to play on the power play in the upcoming campaign, but reaching the 40-point mark for the second time in his career may be just outside his wheelhouse.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Set for contract discussions
Heinen and the Bruins are expected to begin negotiations on a new contract before free agency opens July 1, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reports Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Heinen struggled in previous stints with Anaheim and Pittsburgh but excelled this season in his second go-around with the Bruins. In 74 regular-season appearances, the 28-year-old winger notched 17 goals and 36 assists while averaging 14:28 of ice time. If he does re-up with Boston, Heinen should remain in a third-line role but could be elevated to the top six throughout the year when injuries inevitably pop up.
