2025 Fantasy Outlook
Malkin is gearing up for what could be the final chapter of his Hall of Fame career, and he's still holding down the Penguins' second-line center role at age 39. He posted a respectable 50 points (16 goals, 34 assists) in 68 games last year, though injuries and wear and tear were evident. While the explosiveness isn't quite what it used to be, he occasionally flashes his old-school brilliance. Malkin's still logging solid minutes and contributing on Pittsburgh's dangerous power play, but fantasy players should temper expectations. Another 50-55 point campaign is a realistic target if he stays mostly healthy. Draft him in the middle rounds, but don't bank on vintage Geno. Read Past Outlooks
Eclipses 30 helpers on season
Malkin dished out an assist in Monday's 3-2 loss to Ottawa.
ANALYSIS
Malkin recorded the primary assist on Yegor Chinakhov's opening goal in the first period. With the helper, the 39-year-old Malkin reached the 30-assist mark for the season, which secured his fourth consecutive campaign above that total. Overall, the veteran forward is up to 43 points across 39 games this season, which ranks him in a tie for 20th in the NHL with 1.10 points per game. Since his return from an upper-body injury in early January, he has at least one point in 11 of 13 games and has 14 points in that span. He should continue to elevate the team's top six and play a large role in Pittsburgh's playoff push in the Metropolitan Division, giving him strong value across most fantasy formats.

For only the third time in his 18-year NHL career, Malkin failed to average at least a point per game, putting up a mere 67 points in 82 games. The world-class center productivity was a victim of the Penguins' inept power play in 2023-24, as Geno recorded just 18 of his 67 points with the man advantage, which comes despite having averaged 3:25 of power-play ice time per game. While the 2004 second-overall pick may have lost a step, he was still able to reach the 20-goal threshold, a mark he has achieved 15 times. The career Penguin has two more seasons remaining on his contract - a deal that many around the league believe will be his last. If Pittsburgh can revamp its power play, Malkin could return to being a point-per-game player, though he should still be capable of scoring 20-plus goals even without the boost from the man advantage.
