Yields five goals in loss
Martin stopped 31 of 36 shots in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Islanders.
ANALYSIS
Martin took his third straight loss, a span in which he's given up 12 goals on 93 shots. The 30-year-old has been alternating starts with Jonathan Quick lately, but neither goalie has posted many positive results during the absence of Igor Shesterkin (lower body). Martin is now 1-3-0 over six appearances, allowing a total of 20 goals on 147 shots (.864 save percentage). The Rangers are at home Thursday for a rematch with the Islanders, which will likely see Quick get the nod.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Martin registered a 3-8-1 record with a 3.65 GAA and a .887 save percentage in 13 appearances for Columbus before being claimed off waivers by Carolina. As a member of the Hurricanes, he went 4-1-1 with a 2.63 GAA and a .896 save percentage. The organization promptly signed Martin to a one-year contract extension in March. Carolina desperately needed goaltending depth because of Frederik Andersen's blood clotting issue. In fact, Andersen has been limited to 50 appearances over the past two seasons, and more absences would lead to more opportunities for Martin and Pyotr Kochetkov in 2024-25. The 29-year-old Martin could be a solid waiver option, but he is firmly entrenched in the No. 3 spot on the goaltending depth chart going into the upcoming campaign.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Moving on from Carolina
Martin will pursue a new opportunity, closing the door on his return to the Hurricanes, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Martin's exit from the Hurricanes was already expected after the team acquired Cayden Primeau from the Canadiens. There are some teams that need goaltending depth, so Martin should be able to find an NHL deal for 2025-26 despite his 3.89 GAA and .846 save percentage over nine games behind a good team last year.
