2025 Fantasy Outlook
Skinner had his worst season as a No. 1 goalie in 2024-25, posting a 26-18-4 record with a 2.81 GAA and a .896 save percentage over 51 regular-season outings. He had some injuries late in the campaign, and while he opened the postseason as the Oilers' top goalie, he yielded those duties to Calvin Pickard after two games, temporarily took it back, then was replaced again during the Stanley Cup Finals. Skinner's $2.6 million cap hit is manageable -- it's not enough to guarantee him a hearty share of playing time if his performance doesn't match. Both Skinner and Pickard are under contract for 2025-26, but with the cap rising, the Oilers may consider an upgrade in goal before next season. Skinner's been fine most of the time, but his playoff struggles cast some doubt on his long-term outlook with the team. Read Past Outlooks
Scheduled to start on Long Island
Skinner is slated to start in Tuesday's road divisional matchup versus the Islanders, according to NHL.com.
ANALYSIS
Skinner will tend the twine in the second half of Pittsburgh's back-to-back after Arturs Silovs was in goal for Monday's 3-2 loss to Ottawa. The Islanders also played Monday, losing 4-1 to the Capitals, so neither team has the rest advantage Tuesday. Skinner faced the Isles on Oct. 16 when he was with the Oilers, making 21 saves on 24 shots in a 4-2 loss. The 27-year-old netminder is 2-2-0 with a .900 save percentage and a 2.53 GAA over four career appearances against the Islanders.

2022
Skinner's 2023-24 swung harder than a pendulum. He started the season with a painful 3-9-1 record and a .891 save percentage. Then in late November, he started a run where he looked like a Vezina candidate. Finally, Skinner got benched in the second round of the playoffs. It was what he needed to reset his game and almost win a Cup. Fantasy-wise, the hometown goalie finished tied for third overall in wins (36) alongside Sergei Bobrovsky and Igor Shesterkin. Despite that bad start, Skinner finished with a 2.62 GAA and a .905 save percentage overall. Along the way, he supplanted the great Grant Fuhr for the franchise record for consecutive wins (12). Skinner has the potential to be a top-tier netminder if he can put together a complete season. He'll get that shot in 2024-25 with a heavy workload and top-eight finishes in every fantasy category.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Door open to re-sign with club
Skinner may be playing his way into a contract extension with Pittsburgh, Josh Yohe of The Athletic reports Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
According to Yohe, the team is keeping all possibilities open regarding Skinner's future with the club. Sergei Murashov will likely push for a full-time NHL role next season, so the Penguins likely won't want to overpay to keep Skinner. Since being acquired in a trade with the Oilers, the veteran Skinner has posted a 7-4-0 record, 2.31 GAA and .906 save percentage for Pittsburgh.
