Rossi was overshadowed by the victory of Ed Carpenter Racing teammate Christian Rasmussen, but Rossi had an excellent race in his own right. He executed an aggressive pit strategy, ducking in for fresh tires around six to seven laps before the rest of the field on Lap 48, and he then pitted under caution with 37 laps to go to give him fresh tires to close the race. The end result was Rossi climbing from 12th to fourth to tally his second consecutive top-five finish.
