NFL Week 2 Line Movement

A quarterback is the only position that can significantly move an NFL point spread, and a top-tier QB can be worth up to seven or more points. For all other positions, the impact is minimal and usually less than a single point, unless multiple players on the same unit are injured. When a unit has multiple starters out, it is often overlooked in the handicapping world. OL, DL, secondary, and WR are the units that are impacted the most.

Philadelphia Eagles at Kansas City Chiefs

This line move was the biggest of Week 2 as of Sunday 1pm because both teams had already played. This feels like a pretty steep overreaction to the Chiefs losing on a neutral field to the Chargers. The Chiefs opened as -1.5 point home favorites, but the line has moved to Eagles -1.0. The Eagles were lucky they did not lose to the Cowboys at home, so I am thinking we could see some money come back on the Chiefs to get this one to PICK.

It is a rematch of last year's Super Bowl, where the Chiefs were humbled by the Eagles. I still think the Chiefs circle the wagons and get a close home win.  KC needs this game way more than Philly.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Cincinnati Bengals

This line opened as high as Bengals -5.5 and has reopened at Bengals -3.0 or -3.5, which is a pretty significant move off Sunday's results. The Jaguars shut down the Panthers 23-10, and the Bengals barely held on to defeat the Browns 17-16. This is the highest total game on the board, and I have to think we will see some downward movement on this total at 49.5-50.5 based on how inept both offenses looked.

Washington Commanders at Green Bay Packers

The Packers opened -1.5 home favorites, but between the Micah Parsons trade and their big home win against the Lions Sunday, it has moved to -3.5, crossing over the key number of -3. I would expect this line to stay within the -3 to -4 range as the books will want to avoid any "middle" opportunities from bettors. It is interesting to note that the Commanders were dominant over the Giants at home, and this has had little impact on the line.

Other Games with Line Movement

49ers/Saints - Injuries to 49ers have dropped the line from -6.5 to -4.5 and the total from 44.5 to 40-41.

Seahawks/Steelers - Total opened 43.5, now 40.5

Titans/Rams - Total opened 45.5, now 42.5
