2025 Fantasy Outlook
Houston drafted Mertz in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He was a highly touted recruit at the University of Wisconsin before transferring to the University of Florida for the final two years of eligibility. He showed improved decision-making and comfort at Florida, but a torn ACL in October of 2024 ended his season. Mertz recovered quickly and in time to make a positive impression at his Pro Day workouts, enough so that the Texans will take a chance. He'll push Davis Mills for the backup job, but it's more likely Mertz will be the third quarterback. Read Past Outlooks

Mertz completed 14 of 16 pass attempts for 145 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 26-7 preseason win over Detroit.
