McCord was selected by the Eagles in the sixth round of the 2025 Draft after leading the FBS in passing yards (4,779) and completions per game (30.1) at Syracuse last season. The Philadelphia native threw 58 touchdowns and 18 interceptions in his two years as a collegiate starter but offers very little with his legs. The rookie sixth-rounder wasn't able to crack the Eagles' 53-man roster, but he'll stay in Philadelphia as the team's scout team quarterback. With Tanner McKee in jeopardy of missing Week 1 due to a thumb injury, McCord could be elevated to the active roster to serve as the Eagles' emergency quarterback behind Jalen Hurts and Sam Howell.

The Rams are in the midst of deciding whether to bring Matthew Stafford back for the 2025 season on a restructured deal, per Sarah Bishop of ESPN.com. Keeping Stafford and selecting a quarterback like McCord in the draft would give the Rams a situation similar to the Falcons last season with Kirk Cousins and Michael Penix. McCord transferred to Syracuse in 2024 after spending his first three college years with Ohio State, and he finished the year completing 65.8 percent of his passes for 3,170 yards, 24 touchdowns and six interceptions.
