Roman Wilson

Roman Wilson

24-Year-Old Wide ReceiverWR
Pittsburgh Steelers
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Wilson's 2024 rookie season was a wash, even though the Steelers badly needed help at wide receiver. After going in the third round, 84th overall, Wilson played just one game all season, missing Week 1 with an ankle injury and Weeks 7-18 with a hamstring injury. In between the two injury stints, he was a healthy scratch four times and played just five snaps in his lone appearance. Steelers GM Omar Khan said in February that Wilson might have contributed in the playoffs had the team advanced beyond the first round, and it now seems he has a shot at the No. 2 WR role for his second pro season. With 4.39 speed at 5-foot-11, 185, Wilson profiles as a perimeter receiver who runs a lot of downfield routes, which would make it difficult to get a lot of targets in an offense with DK Metcalf at wide receiver and run-first coordinator Arthur Smith calling plays. Picks up 72 yards
WRPittsburgh Steelers
August 16, 2025
Wilson recorded two receptions on four targets for 72 yards in Saturday's 17-14 preseason loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Wilson got the chance to start with DK Metcalf resting and Calvin Austin (abdomen) sidelined, and he took advantage by creating a few splash plays. Wilson got behind the defense for a 42-yard gain down the middle of the field late in the first quarter and then got wide open on the next drive to tack on another 30 yards. Wilson failed to gain traction in the Steelers' offense as a rookie after battling a few lower-body injuries, but he appears to be getting on track heading into his sophomore campaign.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Wilson's prospect profile offers a lot of similarities to fellow rookie Ladd McConkey's, though the two aren't necessarily similar stylistically on the field. Like McConkey, the Michigan man was a three-year starter who consistently had good numbers per-route and per-target but never had the opportunity to run a large number of routes in a season. Wilson put up 39-420-3 on 190 routes as a sophomore, 25-377-4 on 191 routes as a junior and 48-789-12 on 300 routes as a senior, averaging at least 10.1 YPT each year. His target rate lingered around 20 percent of routes each year, which is one potential red flag, though partially explained by running a lot of deep routes and sharing a field with other future NFL players. Wilson confirmed his athleticism at the 2024 Combine, where he ran a 4.39 40 at 5-11, 185 (but skipped the other drills). For the Steelers, he looks like a safe pick in the third round rather than an upside bid, considering he'll be 23 as a rookie and profiles best as a medium-volume field stretcher. Pittsburgh already has one deep threat in WR George Pickens, but starting a pair of downfield specialists could work out well in what figures to be a run-heavy offense under new coordinator Arthur Smith. New QB Russell Wilson is known for his accuracy on deep sideline throws much more so than working over the middle, so this could be a good fit for Wilson in terms of both playing time and per-target efficiency, though Pittsburgh's offense doesn't offer a great volume ceiling.

Prominent role in sophomore year?
WRPittsburgh Steelers
August 30, 2025
Jake Ciely of The Athletic believes Wilson will be a breakout offensive player for the Steelers in 2025.
ANALYSIS
Wilson's outlook for 2025 was improved after George Pickens was traded to the Cowboys in May, though the former is still locked in a competition against Calvin Austin for the WR2 role behind DK Metcalf. Wilson was limited to one regular-season game during his rookie year mostly due to lower-body injuries, but he was fully healthy throughout training camp and should see regular work in the Steelers' regular-season opener against the Jets on Sunday, Sept. 7, especially if Austin is sidelined due to an abdominal injury. Ciely notes that Aaron Rodgers was able to get Davante Adams and Garrett Wilson plenty of targets in the Jets' passing game in 2024 and should be able to do the same between Metcalf and Wilson this season.
