2025 Fantasy Outlook
Ehlinger joined the Broncos this offseason, signing a one-year deal after spending his first four seasons in Indianapolis. Drafted by the Colts in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Texas product failed to see the field last season while operating as the Colts' emergency third quarterback in several contests. Ehlinger should occupy a similar role for Denver in 2025, posing no threat to starter Bo Nix and with Jarrett Stidham having been signed to a two-year deal as the primary backup this offseason. The Broncos signed Ehlinger to the practice squad Thursday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Ehlinger lost a competition for the No. 2 quarterback role to Jarrett Stidham, but the former will remain in Denver as a part of the team's practice squad. Ehlinger last saw regular-season action in 2023, playing three offensive snaps for the Colts in Week 14 against the Bengals. The 2021 sixth-rounder could frequently earn an emergency quarterback designation this season, which would allow him to enter a game if Bo Nix and Stidham are both forced out of a game due to injury or ejection.

Despite starting three games in 2022 and ostensibly being in the mix to be a starter or backup last summer, Ehlinger appeared in just one game for the Colts last season. His low usage even took place despite the early season-ending shoulder injury to starter Anthony Richardson. Ehlinger is a clear No. 3 quarterback with the Colts signing Joe Flacco to back up Richardson this season. Ehlinger may not make the 53-man roster since NFL rules this season allow you to activate a third QB from the practice squad. Either way, it would like take several injuries until the Colts gave Ehlinger substantial playing time again.
In four games last season, Ehlinger completed 63.4 percent of his passes for 573 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. With the team's initial 2022 starter Matt Ryan no longer in the mix ahead of the coming campaign, Ehlinger is presumably destined to fit in as the Colts' No. 3 signal caller, now that veteran Gardner Minshew and highly-touted 2023 first-round pick Anthony Richardson are both on board. In that context, it would likely take an injury or two before the mobile 2021 sixth-rounder re-enters the starting equation.
Ehlinger, a 2021 sixth-round draft pick, won a roster spot last season based on his training camp performance and rushing ability in preseason games. After missing the first six weeks of the season with a knee injury, he moved up to the backup quarterback role in the second half of the campaign but made just three token appearances in games. This coming season, he'll serve as the No. 3 quarterback with the Colts signing Nick Foles as the top backup to Matt Ryan. Ehlinger lacks arm strength, but his mobility could make him a mismatch problem as a backup in short stints.

QBDenver Broncos
April 2, 2025
Ehlinger signed a one-year deal with the Broncos on Wednesday, NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ehlinger was a sixth-round pick of the Colts in 2021 and saw game action in four regular-season contests back in 2022, completing 64 of 101 passes for 573 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions while adding 87 rushing yards on 17 attempts. The Texas product hasn't put up pass attempts in either of his other three seasons to date, so he doesn't project to pose a serious challenge to No. 2 quarterback Jarrett Stidham in training camp this summer.
