The Preview
"The Greatest Show on Grass" invites a 123-man field headlined by Scottie Scheffler and a raucous crowd to the Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale, where 16th-hole shenanigans often overshadow a driver-happy, risk-friendly layout that tends to honor elite all-around games. Approach play -- particularly from 150-200 yards -- is still paramount at the WM Phoenix Open, but power off the tee continues to lend more and more of an advantage here in the total driving equation as the years pass by. Meanwhile, these winter-season putting surfaces contain a smooth poa trivialis strain, providing relief for the pros as a true test after dealing with bumpy poa annua in San Diego. Nonetheless, expect sunny skies and favorable scoring conditions while the stacks of green souvenir cups grow in the background.

Cream of the Crop
Scottie Scheffler - $45
A two-time past champion at TPC Scottsdale, Scheffler is coming off a four-shot win at The American Express where he also paced the field in putts per GIR en route to 32 total birdies. The World No. 1 lands shorter than 3-1 in the outright betting market this week, while Yahoo's $45 maximum salary remains far too low for Scheffler's lofty chances of pure domination.
Cameron Young - $39
Young should be warmed up after beginning his 2026 campaign with a top-25 effort at last week's Farmers Insurance Open, where he ranked 14th among the field in SG: Ballstriking but lost strokes putting for the first time since the 2025 Open Championship. I think we'll benefit from positive regression on the greens at TPC Scottsdale for Young, who gained a collective 12.6 strokes with the flat stick over the past two years here, finishing T12-T8 in the process. Additionally, he was first in fairway proximity from 175-200 yards and fourth in fairway proximity from 150-175 yards last week at Torrey Pines.
Si Woo Kim - $38
Arguably in the second-best form right now behind only Scheffler, Kim has placed T2-T6-T11-3-T4 in his last five starts dating back to November's RSM Classic, excelling primarily with his iron play and driving accuracy. Kim is second in SG: Tee-to-Green over his last 24 rounds, and he just paced the Farmers Insurance Open in SG: Approach on the South Course. He's finished T26 or better in four straight editions of the WMPO as well.
Glue Guys
Michael Thorbjornsen - $28
Rebounding from a missed cut at The AmEx, Thorbjornsen ranked eighth in SG: T2G and T10 in GIR percentage on the way to a top-20 result at last week's FIO, where he ultimately racked up 17 total birdies and an eagle despite losing 1.9 strokes putting. He made the cut in his WMPO debut last year, and Thorbjornsen's driving distance should help lend plenty of DFS scoring opportunities, especially on TPC Scottsdale's reachable par-5s.
Rickie Fowler - $27
Fowler was a horse for the course at TPC Scottsdale from a runner-up finish in 2016 through his 2019 win here before falling into a career slump, but the 37-year-old is making a resurgence as he ranks 18th in average SG: Total per round and 25th in SG: T2G over his past 50 rounds. He closed out the 2025 FedExCup Playoffs with a T6-T7 stretch at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and the BMW Championship, preceding his 2026 debut at The AmEx where he tied for 18th. Fowler has gained at least 0.50 strokes ball striking per round in six of his last seven starts.
Jordan Spieth - $26
Spieth hasn't missed a cut since last May, and he's placed T6 or better in four of his last five trips to the WMPO. He gained strokes across the board on the way to a top-25 finish at the Sony Open in Hawaii, where he also ranked eighth in par-4 scoring. Expect a combination of name brand and course history to make Spieth a popular Yahoo click at just $26.
Bargain Bin
Jake Knapp - $24
The Scottsdale resident ranks third in SG: Off-the-Tee and ninth in SG: Putting over his last 24 rounds, and the flat stick has been particularly hot since the turn of the calendar year as he gained 10.5 collective strokes putting over a T11-T5 run at the Sony and the Farmers. Knapp is 2-for-2 in cuts made at the WMPO, notably gaining four strokes with his irons here last year.
Sahith Theegala - $21
Theegala seems to be making a fairly rapid turnaround after a brutal 2025 season, finishing T31-T8-T7 through his first three starts this year. Although he's primarily leaned on his short game, Theegala ranked fifth in Fairway Prox: 175-200 on the South Course last week, and 10th in overall GIR percentage at the FIO. He's a perfect 4-for-4 in cuts made at TPC Scottsdale, highlighted by a pair of top-5s here in 2022 and 2024.
Brooks Koepka - $20
Koepka's putting was absolutely atrocious in his much-anticipated return to the PGA Tour at Torrey Pines, but he did rank 11th among the FIO field in SG: T2G on the South Course. He's already won the WMPO twice, and it'd be borderline physically impossible to putt as poorly as he did last week. Yet to budge from the $20 minimum salary, Koepka could carry a ton of ownership in this spot.
