Ilkay Gundogan

Gundogan's return to City was met with some success, as he started 25 of his 33 appearances, triggering a clause for a one-year extension. This came after the injury to Rodri, with Gundogan taking his role in the back half of the midfield and seeing more work as a holding midfielder. However, he still showed some promise with his seven goal contributions. The question now is what role he could hold in the new season, as numerous signings were made throughout the year, and Rodri has returned. Rodri will take his role back immediately, and Tijjani Reijnders and Nico Gonzalez should bid for plenty of time, leaving room for Gundogan to lose minutes. Without starting time, much of his value is lost, though he's known for some clutch goals as a late substitute, possibly a role he could be heading for again.
